Watercolor Palette

Instead of one of those really expensive porcelain palettes, I use a white ceramic egg dish to mix watercolors in. I found it at the thrift store.
I like ceramic better than plastic for mixing paint because it doesn’t stain. When I’m in the process of painting a portrait, I can leave the colors that I’ve mixed there and re-wet them when ready to continue working.
If you can’t find one at the thrift store, you can get a new one for about ten dollars. That’s still a fraction of the price that you would pay for the ones they market to artists.
